The Self-Interrogation Station

The Self-Interrogation Station is a live performance that questions the norm of surveillance, power of governance, data collection and distribution, and personal identification.

The idea deviated from personal experiences when filling in the census and application forms, and a series of seem-to-be-appropriate questions were asked. We cannot simply state who we are as an individual. Instead, the authenticity of our very self now is based on somewhat ambiguous and out of our control.

I intend to ask, why:

The place of birth determines who we can be.

Knowing who my parents are will get a closer understanding of my existence.

Education in the past leads to our potential.

Sexuality certainly matters in how many water pipes should be laid in this community.

Ethnicity is sometimes colour coded, sometimes geographically based, sometimes undefined, and sometimes fluctuated.

A reference letter from a subjective other is the only way for one to be acknowledged in this society.

Nonsense.

We seem to be independent.

But we cannot be independent.

We think we know who we are.

But we cannot be who we are.
