Jason is an artist and designer, working across film, performance, and installation. Through the mediums of storytelling and worldbuilding, his work explores underrepresented cultures, identities, and science fiction imaginaries that are influenced by his Cantonese and Hakka heritage, as well as a diasporic experience.
He earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Architecture from the University of Bath and the Royal College of Art in the United Kingdom. Additionally, he obtained Master degrees in Design Studies from Harvard University's Graduate School of Design, and Fiction and Entertainment from Southern California Institute of Architecture in the United States, focusing on media and technology.
From turning food waste into an artful dialogue at London’s “Night Time Is The Right Time” exhibition, to reimagining the principles of the circular economy and ownership at the Oslo Architecture Triennale, Jason transforms everyday challenges, social justice and climate urgency into creative adventures. He also collaborated with innovative minds at the MIT Media Lab x Samsung Hack, where his design tackled issues of loneliness and trauma among youth with a fresh, interactive approach.
His spatial practice shifts in between the physical and digital realms. In 2018, he was part of the craft of the physical stage set for the Demanio Marittimo KM-278 event in Senigallia, Italy, under the theme of “Co-existence," while his digital sets lived within the short film “Inside Out," selected for the Awareness Festival in 2022, and his VR project “You’re Unwelcome," which imagined surreal journey across the English Channel and was presented at Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts and Istanbul Bilgi University.
He is currently working on his own research/film - “One Last Dance” - a speculative future on the (brink of) existence of Cantonese culture.
